Just wrote a game...

All --

I've just written an online game that I'm hoping will be fun to play. I just finished coding it, and this is the first time and place that I've posted a public link to it, so the edges may still be rough.

In the game, you see results pulled from a search engine, with the term that was searched on blanked out. The idea is to guess what term was searched on, based on the results that came back.

Here's the link:

Hope it's fun! If you have any feedback, please drop me note.

Re: Just wrote a game...

I did see this some 12 hours ago, did visit it and did not completely understand it.

As I recall, the notes above tell me what I need to do but those instructions were not on the page.

On entry I was greeted with a page looking for "a celebrity". I can record a selection or ask for a hint. Good thought but I don't know what to do if I make a guess, eg: "Bing Crosby", I wasn't told (after hitting the Java button the first time) but I hit "Enter".

Interestingly the answer for that celebrity was all too easily 'hacked'.

While this sort of thing holds no interest for me, yes there may be some who like to link events, issues, etc, and may find his appealing, but it personally looses me.

That said, look to how best you can provide for what your reader might expect.

Re: Just wrote a game...

From the link alone I would rate it a 1 (on a scale of 1 to 10). That sounds harsh, but I do believe there is good potential here though.

This is what I see the example lacking:
1)Presentation: I would take everything that appears in the browser now and put it into a frame and surround it with an actual web page. For now the web page could be a simple header "the hcraeS game"(with some font color), some instructions in a box and a possible picture or two.
2)Clear instructions
3)More examples to fully analyze this as a possible game. (i.e 'next puzzle' link)-With only one example it would be hard to fully analyze the value in this.
3)Better example (maybe more of the search results rather than just 1 OBSCURE item.) From the example provided the only clue we get is "co-ownership"- of what?, narrows that down to about a million different people. (commenatary...archival information...new york times-all provide no input WHATSOEVER)

I think even with all this corrected it would not provide great interest to me. But in a better format, I could see interest for someone more into current events than I am.

Some other ideas: If you are 'hcraeS'ing for a person, you could use "hooYa" -instead of Yahoo. Might play with Go Ogle- for a picture or a person. Some other search engine names may be able to be broken down similarly.

Hope this input helps- feel free to conatct me via e-mail.
