Let Me Date You (Donald D)

During my primary school years our school was on a fortnightly circuit of a visiting educational projectionist.

Teachers would order a set of 16mm films on each visit for the next occasion. Generally these were to reinforce some topic in the upcoming syllabus. It was an advantage for teachers to become licensed projectionists; it allowed us to order and screen films at our discretion, when more appropriate, or even if we were not on such a circuit.

Educational television programming and video eventually saw the demise of such a service.

I have partly addressed my subject, but not quite.

I recalled viewing a film in my late primary years which I was able to order for my class some 20 years later. The film library had, I believe, 3 copies and that which I last viewed was in rather good condition although some significant surface scratching. The film was a Disney production, "Donald in Mathmagicland".

I recall Donald was quite void of mathematical ideas and processes and was led through some wonderful experiences which largely escape me. I do remember the "golden section" being featured and something to do with rebound motion on a billiard table; I think there was standard table but there was also an hexagonal one!

That film had to have been created within, or the 1950's decade.

As another thought on being dated, I recall buying a "slip stick" (slide rule) for use in Chem and Physics classes, the Maths faculty largely frowned on them in junior classes insisting on log tables!

Well, how have you been dated, or offer something else to be archived on Perplexus?
