Solving problems

I am just curious as to how you guys approach these puzzles. Like, do you use a heuristic method, does the answer just come to you, or what?

Re: Solving problems

Which puzzles? Some are classic puzzles, like the one where you try to cross a river with a tiger, a goat, and a cabbage, others are variations of classic puzzles, like the recent Tower of Hanoi variation, and others are originals.

The classics are well know by large groups on this site, variations of the classics can be found fairly quickly most times, and new puzzles may either be easy or difficult depending on the tendencies of each person.

different types of puzzles require different approaches. Word puzzles are very different from math puzzles, but many may consider them to be similar to pattern puzzles.

Re: Solving problems

you have 8 eggs, one of which is lighter in weight. You can use a balance beam scale and are allowef to use it just twice. find the lighter egg.

Re: Solving problems

Don't post a problem on the forums, look for it in the Weights and Scales catergory.

Re: Solving problems

Hi eric, yr theory is close. I write out the answer with random symbols, then meditate on them until the symbols colour themselves in. All that remains is for the colours to b replaced with corresponding numbers.

My answers are normally wrong, so i go and play Planarity rather than worry about it.
