Browser Oddity

This strikes me as quite weird. I cannot find a reasonable explanation for this situation, and I have tried.

In background,
I accessed a document on this site.

I was feeling like the child in Hans Christian Anderson's "The King's New Clothes". Here are colleagues talking about a certain graphic ... nothing that graphic, (God preserve us) .... and

I c.o.u.l.d s.e.e n_o_t_h_i_n_g__ !

I recognised browser platform difficulties so I accessed the Url under NS, IE and Firefox. At all times I saw the text but no graphic.

To make matters worse, I visited my next door neighbour who was on-line at the time. The graphic ... was THERE!

Don't rush!!
I had been very careful to check out the Source File of the HTML loaded into each of the 3 browsers. In fact I

I had been offered to look for file "xxxxx.gif". This is where it hurts. I could only find a reference to that file, within those browser source listings, under the name of the person offering.

On my neighbour's computer was an HTML line which called up the "xxxxx.gif" file.

Be a sceptic if you will. I hopefully cleaned out the caches of each of the 3 browsers.

Tell me a story .... but I'll probably be I'll probably be in bed and .. I'll just have to wait.

Re: Browser Oddity

I'm no expert, but if it doesn't work on any of your browsers, the problem is probably not your browser, but the computer or its internet connection.

Do you have problems seeing other pictures in other problems?

Re: Browser Oddity

That is what is so weird. The home and flooble icons on the main perplexus.info page are both gif, and I just noted a Bonus Problem of Gamer's which contained a 4 x 5 chessboard.

It is almost as though the file 'rubik1.gif' was being filtered out.

Re: Browser Oddity

Puzzle something! Had forsaken Adaware (from Lavasoft.com) for a while [McAfee doesn't seem to tell me all about some of those things] but a re-run had a list of critical objects. Deleted them but still to no avail.

Re: Browser Oddity

Since the diagnosis of 'NetNannyGamerPuzzlePorn' the puzzle to which I have been referring has a strong possibility of being published. This puzzle contains an image which I cannot see in the editing forum.

While this could seem to distress me, I am hopeful to see this problem; some 15 to 20 years back when the R-Cube came out I was involved in a few contests with students at my school.

(Being a teacher, that gave the kids something more of a challenge - there was one 11-12yo, who managed somewhere between 20-30 secs, I think I beat him but only just, neither of us looked like challenging the record which I recall was set at about 12 secs.)

No, there are other events that are going on here against which I can further focus. I hadn't really focussed upon the Difficulty Index boxes; sometimes they were there and sometimes they were not! This discrepancy of Diff Boxes was apparent whether I was intending to edit/vote but it does become noticeable at times under general onnectivity,

"View Source" - yes, there were Diff Ind listings for some and not for others.

Tristan has added his inexpertise that I may have an internet connection problem. Considered fairly, and some info that I may have gleaned from elsewhere, this could lead to my solution.

This site is driven via PHP and Javascript programming.
....................
So now I have to ask:
"Why do Perplexus colleagues not have the same questions as me?"

...... G.W.B Soft Solutions :-(

Better :-?

Re: Browser Oddity

I feel confident that this thread is now dead!!

McAfee just updated my SecurityCentre software (privacy service), and since then I have been able to view all of what I was not seeing.

My assessment is that some form of spyware, even though it had been removed had been corrupting the way in wich javascript was regenerating the HTML of the pages on this site, in particular "Gif" images - it didn't interfere with all, like the Home pic and the Flooble balls, so now I can continue to browse again with peace of mind.
