Perplexus is v-e-r-y s-l-o-w!

For the last week or so, Perplexus has been taking over a minute to load pages; the irritating ads come up immediately (natch!) but then there is the l-o-n-g wait until the real stuff loads. My coffee gets cold just waiting. :-(

Is anybody else having this problem? If not, what could be the reason?

J.

Re: Perplexus is v-e-r-y s-l-o-w!

There are some ads which appear that my Virus pack considers to be 'spyware'. Some of the cookies relating to these may be staying on your machine and causing the slowdown. It could also be a problem with heavy traffic on the network to which the Perplexus server is linked. Whether there are issues of admin maintenance one cannot tell; recently the Chatterbox has been out of commission a few times for a short period and sometimes the server has just not responded.

Can't offer anything further. Sugget that you keep an urn of hot water on standby for the coffee cup. :-)

Re: Perplexus is v-e-r-y s-l-o-w!

I regularly delete all my cookies and temporary internet files and it is still slow to load. In fact I just did attempting to load perplexus faster. Has anyone petitioned levik? I would guess by now many people have. I am not very computer savvy but I turned off phishing filter, spyware blocker, feeds, and some other settings in an attempt to speed up the load. Anyone else have any other suggestions?

Re: Perplexus is v-e-r-y s-l-o-w!

Although My equipment is very basic I am not having any problems loading at the moment. I apologize for stating the obvious but whenever I have had similar problems it has been due to a Virus or a cluttered hard drive- so a check up may be in order

Re: Perplexus is v-e-r-y s-l-o-w!

I have noted the slowness when using Internet Explorer. I think the difference with Mozilla Firefox, which I now use for perplexus, is that Firefox shows the page before everything loads. Even in Firefox, the hourglass cursor stays around a long time, indicating further information is coming in -- information whose transmission holds up I.E..

It's unfortunate to have to need Firefox, as it has some peculiarities when working in a comment box, such as not showing a typing cursor initially (until some typing gets done in the comment box). Also when single-spaced lines are converted to pre-formated, they get changed to double-spaced by Firefox (that wouldn't happen with I.E.).

Re: Perplexus is v-e-r-y s-l-o-w!

My experience is the same as Charlie's. The cause is neither viruses nor cookies nor slow servers! It's something in IE 7.0 because good, old Firefox works fine, loading the pages in a few seconds.
Life is good again. :-)

Re: Perplexus is v-e-r-y s-l-o-w!

I had the same problems! It was so slow that I could see only a blank grey screen. Only when I disconnected from the internet could I see the text. This, of course meant that I couldn't respond to anything on the site. On Sunday, I installed Firefox (thanks brianjn for the tip) now everything is great again. :-)

Re: Perplexus is v-e-r-y s-l-o-w!

Thanks Charlie (you da guy)and others,

Firefox and all is well for now. It loads slow with IE on my work computer as well which is pretty well maintained. A cleanup on my laptop is way overdue though. I'll defrag, virus scan, ad scan, etc. For me some of the deeper cleanup will require an internet search or some input from someone with some more knowhow. Thanks again.

Re: Perplexus is v-e-r-y s-l-o-w!

Looks like the problem with the site has been fixed. Perplexus is no longer slow-loading in IE, and in Firefox, the rolling circle of perpetual loading stops shortly after completing the page, rather than going on forever.

Yep, guru levik has worked his magic and the mysterious IE wait seems to have gone away.
Thanks all.
