How to stop the spam on perplexus

There has been a lot of spam on perplexus lately, which diminishes the quality of the site. I have an idea about how to stop the spammers from creating new accounts. When a new user tries to create an account, they should have to solve a math problem. It would be almost like a captcha, but with a puzzle. Then, only people that like puzzles will be able to create an account, and there will be no more spammers. What do you guys think about this idea? Should we implement it to deter the spammers?

I agree.

As a further refinement, the problem to be solved could be the random problem for the day.

A random sign-up problem should be automated, like: What is the first decimal digit of sin(day or the year today) where day of the year is taken to be in degrees, 1-365?

Re: How to stop the spam on perplexus

A call for government enforcement of laws against spamming might help.
Requiring the visitors to solve mathematical problems or puzzles, in my opinion, is not the solution. For one, not all solutions logged into Perplexus are valid solutions even if a majority perceive them to be. A registration process should include verifiable identification that would ease judicial actions being taken against the spammers, as well as, for the support of any judicial suit, a pledge by the registrant that his or her posts will include no solicitation or advertisment activity for any commercial product or service. If the registrant is not under the jurisdiction of a nation that is subject to the same international regulations that govern Perplexus, the registrant should not be permitted to make posts on this site.
