submitted problems

On JAN 31,2004 I've submitted few problems -- one of them original and quite challenging.
Can anyone tell me what, how and when is going to happen.
Any response will be appreciated.... Go ahead

Re: submitted problems

I have some problems submitted on Jan 10. I am still waiting for those to come through. Currently, the average amount of time for a problem to reach the top 10 is approximately 4 months. I would expect yours to reach it around late May or early June.

Re: submitted problems

If you click on the "xx Problems Pending" link on the right of the page, then click on "edit problem", you will be told where-abouts in the queue your problem is. I posted my first problem on the 15th Feb 2004, it's currently #48 in the queue, I expect to wait another 4 weeks at least.

Re: submitted problems

lol think more. 48= 5+ i almost guarantee. and ady, i trust ur problem will be available for voting in about 3-4 weeks. After, the journeymen (like SK, Popstar Dave, and me) and scholars (like Gamer and DJ) will decide on its fate.

Re: submitted problems

The earliest two puzzles a given person has in the queue are given queue weight 1. Any others the same person has submitted are given queue weight 2. All queue weight 1 puzzles are given precedence over any queue weight 2 for appearance in the 10 to be voted on at a given time.

When a given person's (call that person A) puzzle is either posted to the site live, or rejected and eliminated from the queue, that opens up a position for another puzzle to get into the 10 that are voted on, usually some other person's QW 1 puzzle. Then, when midnight comes around, another of the puzzles that person A had submitted now changes from QW2 to QW1, and if it was submitted before the puzzle that had just entered the voting-10, it will push that puzzle out.

Re: submitted problems

I understand what Charlie is saying in his post, but wouldn't it make it more enthusing for a new member to automatically get his/her 1st puzzles higher up the queue?

I find it quite dis-heartening to see that the first puzzle i submitted is still 33 in the queue, when i first posted it, it was in position 90, it should have taken 8 weeks or so to get into the voting pile, instead i've been waiting over 12, with little end in site.

My proposal would be to keep the QW system as is but to allow initial problems from members NOT to be leap-frogged by earlier puzzles from other members changing from QW2 to QW1.

I believe this would keep members interest as they would see their own problems alot earlier.

Re: submitted problems

A good point Juggler, but consider that this provides incentive for people to create additional usernames (in an effort to put one or two problems per username in the queue so they come up to the front sooner).

I'm sure you wouldn't do that, but it only takes one or two people to make a mess of things.

Re: submitted problems

Good point SK, That is something i had not considered, but i see a drawback for their fraudulence, this would not get them promoted up the site, which is why alot of us are here, but i do not think this would be a problem for those of us that are honest.

Re: submitted problems

What do you mean? If memory serves, I was completely, uh... indifferent... uh, yeah... that's the ticket.

Re: submitted problems

Heh you are the top submitter now SK. You and the next 5 submitters make up about 3/5 of the queue!

Re: submitted problems

For what it's worth, I've not submitted any new ones recently. (Though I might soon! :-P ).

And we topped off over 600 problems in the queue around two months ago... we're slowly inching back down... now at 550. This is probably a good thing. Maybe, finally... FINALLY... we've submitted ALL possible problems/brain teasers.

Then again, maybe not.
