Comments box

So I have been thinking and I really dislike the fact that we currently have one comment posting mechanism for problems, another for forums and submissions.

I'd like to unify them if I can.

Is the rich edit control worth keeping, and standardising on, or should all editing just go back to using a textarea?

Re: Comments box

By the way, I'll be out of town from this afternoon to tuesday, so don't take my silence the wrong way :)

Re: Comments box

It's definitely worth keeping, but anything worth doing is worth doing right... and I think it's still, a little quirky.

My difficulties with it may be because I'm using Firefox, and perhaps Mozilla still has some bugs, but even if it's Mozilla's fault, it should work with most browsers (and I think this one is gaining a bit of popularity).

Because of this, I often find myself submitting the complicated comments in flooble.com/perplexus rather than in perplexus.info.

Perhaps you can let it be a preferences option (per user basis), if that doesn't complicate things too greatly.

Comments box & Linux

I agree with SilverKnight; I mostly use Opera or FireFox under Linux, and the formatting box seems to have a "quirky" behavior...

Re: Comments box

In IE5 it's quirky too.

...bringing this up a year later...

I recently switched to firefox, and I'm rather annoyed that the comment box doesn't let me paste, not even with ctrl+V. How will I do all my quote-copying? Any ideas?

Re: Comments box

Cut and Paste!! I'm using Netscape 7.1 and have also tried Firefox. I am having difficulties with cutting from NotePad and pasting to various textareas; submitting a problem is one instance. Seems to be OK here in Forums.

Re: Comments box

I've never been able to cut-and-paste in the puzzle submission box, and I'm using FireFox. Are you saying that if I were to go back to (evil) IE that I'd be able to cut-and-paste?? I guess I should have tried that months ago...

Re: Comments box

I've been using Netscape 7.1 (gradually updating but looking toward Firefox). No I not suggesting IE, I only use when I have too (like when a site is only MS compatible).

No, I used to be able to C&P into the submission box, but maybe my difficulties are corruptions within my machine. Will see about after I erase my HDD and start again.

Re: Comments box

the problem is not corruptions brianjn, the fault with Copy and Paste is with Netscape 7.1, the updated version, Netscape 8.0 is OK.

Re: Comments box

Thank you. Is that a Beta version, or is the Beta which I downloaded but haven't used a follow-on from 8.0?

Re: Comments box

I don't think it's Beta, check out http://browser.netscape.com/ns8/ for download info.

Re: Comments box

As a recent student - the thing that bugged me most about this site was the different mechanisms for inputting comments and problems. I have no preference for which mechanism, but lets pick one or as SilverKnight said make it an option. Also, a link to a page that describes fully the mechanism would be helpful to everybody.

Re: Comments box

Has a decision been made yet about unifying the comment and problem posting mechanisms?
