When is official solution published?

What determines when an official solution (assuming one exists) is published?

Re: When is official solution published?

Someone else asked a similar question over a week ago. I expected somebody else to answer, but I guess nobody did. A similar situation occurs in the solution queue. We all expect someone else to do it.

The elusive solution queue is a little known part of this site. All (actually, I'm not sure it really is all of them) problems without solutions that are over two days old appear in the solution queue for commenting. There are a several main problems in this queue. Primarily, it doesn't get enough attention (yes, I'm guilty of ignoring it too). Second, it's just so darn big! Third, for a problem to be pushed, either a scholar has to push it, or the author must push it, but the author can only push it if he/she is a journeyman. Fourth, a lot of problems don't have well-written solutions, and I believe only scholars can edit them. Fifth, we don't all agree on what an official solution should include/be.

As a result, solutions are posted much slower than the problems. Ideally, they should be posted at the same rate, maybe two weeks afterwards. Perhaps that isn't so bad after all... do you notice a big decline in quality because of the lack of official solutions?

Solutions to the solution problem have been discussed extensively among higher ranking members. We haven't solved the problem because it is hard to find a solution that 1) works 2) we can agree on 3) can be applied easily by Levik.

Re: When is official solution published?

Thanks for your answer. I appreciate the difficulties in publishing solutions. A good solution is more difficult to produce than a good problem!

I've not noticed any decline in quality due to a lack of official solutions, but I suspect some visitors may look for the official solution and be disappointed to find so many lacking.
