I was looking for an older post and came across a thread that was discussing why 0^0 was undefined.
This is what I show my Algebra students (before I make them explain why it is undefined.)
5^0 =
4^0 =
3^0 =
2^0 =
1^0 =
so
0^0 =
but
0^5 =
0^4 =
0^3 =
0^2 =
0^1 =
so
0^0 = |

A nice way of putting it! I did this myself starting with a^0=a^1/a, which for a=0 leads to 0/0, but I like your way better.
Using negatives would also do the job: 0^5, 0^4, 0^3, 0^2, 0^1 = 0, but 0^-1, 0^-2, 0^-3, 0^-4, 0^-5=infinity (or undefined), so 0^0 could go any way. |

There are other ways too to prove that 0^0 = 1 and 0^0 = 0. (Obviously they are not correct). There must be some flaw in their proofs. That's the reason why 0^0 is UNDEFINED. |

What is 0^0?? Not to cause any trouble, but lots of the math problems on here and their explanations are confusing beacuse I don't understand some of the little signs they use. :( |

^ is the symbol for the exponent operation. 3^2 is 32, or 9, and 0^0 is 00. |
