Puzzle Book
I've only been around for a few months now, but I believe I have seen quite a few very interesting and, perhaps more importantly, original problems. I wonder what it would take to publish a book of puzzles by the Perplexus community. |

Well... I'd love to be able to tell colleges that I've been published! |

Re: Puzzle Book
Interesting thought. I wonder though, would it be necessary to get permission from those who have presented (or do they forfeit their intellectual property rights by having their work submitted here?), then there are those puzzles which have come from other sources, the sources of some are cited.
Then what of royalties?

Re: Puzzle Book
Well, there are definately copyright problems, but it could be conceivable.
First, obviously all non-original problems would be out. Even famous riddles may have copyrights somewhere, and, regardless, we wouldn't want well-known riddles, I don't think.
Second, posters are certainly not giving up their status as copyright holders by submitting problems to this site. The original authors of the problems maintain their intellectual property unless they state otherwise. If we cared enough, we could add a note to the sumbission box that all original puzzle submissions get released into the Public Domain, which permenantly removes all copyright what-so-ever, but that of course would only apply to future puzzles, not retroactively.
Those points said, many of the big submitters are still here, and I'll bet many others still have a valid email address listed. It wouldn't take too much to get enough people to write a confirmation either that they permit Perplexus to use their puzzles, or that they release their puzzles into the Public Domain. Again, they would only be able to do so to puzzles that are originally their own intellectual property. |

Re: Puzzle Book
Copyrights aside, is this a possible project? If you're thinking of getting these into paper book form, that's a mammoth task, and one that I doubt Levik would want to take on. And alternative would be to publish them as an e-book, which wouldn't be hard at all. I'm sure plenty of people here know Latex, myself included, and if the work were split up it wouldn't be hard to get a professional-looking pdf. Then you either host it yourself and list in on an e-Book site; submit it to a free e-Book and let people have it for free, or submit it to Amazon and have them host it. Is this something that people would actually be interested in working on? |

Re: Puzzle Book
I was already thinking anyone could rip-off this site and make a book, therefore I think we should do it ourselves first.
The idea of making enough money out of it to replace the adverts/popups is a great one.
I'm into latex too but how does this help? |

Re: Puzzle Book
Note the FAQ section: "What's with all the pops?"
With respect Levik funds this site from the various advertisings. Many of the 14000+ reg. users are conceivably visitors who registered to use "the chatroom". It would therefore not be in Levik's interests, and the site in general, to block pop-ups for all register users.
May the donation of $10 is a better way to avoid pop-ups; but how else might such raised funds be used? And being in the best interests of the "genuine Perplexus community"? |

Re: Puzzle Book
Yeah. Because we have 14,000 people in the CB, thats why it's so hard to get a word in edgeways ;-)
OK, howsabout we use all the millions as a prize for Three Balls? |
