Grid puzzles

Hi everybody, Quite a few of my puzzles are based on a grid form and cannot be entered simply as text. I know I am not yet eligible to post puzzles, but I wondered (when the time comes) if it possible. {If it is, then idiot notes on how to do it would be greatly appreciated.} Look forward to hearing from you. Josie

Re: Grid puzzles

Do they take this general format:

----------
| | | |
----------
| | |
-------
| |
---- ?

Wasn't supposed to look so elongated!!!! :-(
Got too many blank lines in here, gbut you get the drift.

Re: Grid puzzles

If a simple grid is needed for solving like in http://perplexus.info/show.php?pid=1264 then you can just put that in above the clues.

If it is a logic problem usually solved using a grid, just submit it with clues.

If it about filling in a grid like http://perplexus.info/show.php?pid=4677 just submit the grid in the problem.

Re: Grid puzzles

Hi Gamer, Had a look at 4677, but not sure whether my Logidoku puzzle would fit into that. I need to delineate 3x3 grids and irregular shapes, and I don't think I could do that in a text format.

Thanks for replying, Brianjn. I do get the drift of what you're saying, but I'm not sure it would work for my puzzles.

Re: Grid puzzles

Found little info under google for "logidoku", about 6 or 7 entries which didn't help me understand your problem.

I'll send you my email address if you want to get back to me on this.

Re: Grid puzzles

Hi Brianjn, look forward to receiving your address. Mine is josie.7644@yahoogroups.com

If you type Sudokuworld or Puzzleteasers into Google, you will find some of my Logidoku puzzles (but you will have to join the groups first) Best wishes, Josie

Re: Grid puzzles

Tried 4 times but your email address is rejected, I get back:
Your message was sent to a group that does not exist.

I've checked and rechecked, even cut and pasted from above.

Re: Grid puzzles

If you don't mind spending time to submit it, we can also look at it when it reaches the queue. If you want to talk about it over e-mail, that works too

Re: Grid puzzles

I found some examples of Josie's problems and I understand her concerns.

A problem by Salil, Tricky Sudoku, has the potential to be posted shortly. This defines nine cells as blocks of 3 x 3.

Josie's blocks are irregular groupings of 9 cells. Using the same keys as Salil's problem, the borders around Josie's blocks can be so defined.

Unless Josie understands the html tags

and < / pre > [deliberately included spaces here else the slash won't show] there will be horrible distortions of the grid.

For Josie's benefit however, if she has difficulty in sorting this, there are a couple of easy options, email someone (I'm available), or just leave it for the scholars to adjust it when it comes up in the review queue.

Hope that helps Josie.

Re: Grid puzzles

As a last resort, you can submit it as a picture and ask levik to link to it, but a lot can be accomplished with text diagrams.

Re: Grid puzzles

Message before this, I carelessly did not put in spaces for < pre >, which should have followed Unless Josie understands the html tags

Spaces do occur in html tags but are not needed with these, and so this forum recognised my non-spaced pre tag as being html, operated on it and so my keying disappeared!

Yes, Josie all of the above will work, it's just a matter of choosing what will work best for you.

Re: Grid puzzles

Thank you, both, so much for your help. Unfortunately, I am a novice on the internet, so I think the best option might be
to send a pdf version to one of you.
I believe I even duffed up on my email address! Brian tells me it is josie.7644@yahoo.com

Sorry, (I rest my case!)

Will be in touch, Josie

No great crime, we all started at the bottom, and with this technology, none of us will get to the top!

Re: Grid puzzles

Have just noticed I wrote "duffed up" instead of goofed up! Can't even get my words right! Could do with a week to
myself with no interruptions! ......chance would be a fine thing!

I promise you I'll try and buck up.
