Number Mod Number Help.

I see problems all the time that have the notations in the solutions of things like "1 mod 4"... I have taken math through Calc 1 in college and I still have no idea what that means. Would anyone care to fill me in?

Re: Number Mod Number Help.

1 mod 4 = 1 modulus 4 => the number divided by 4 produces 1 as a remainder.

P = Q mod N means that P-Q is a multiple of N.
It equivalently implies that P and Q, divided by N, produce the same remainder.
