(will be posting more as I come across)

Re: Meanings...

A "Rational" number as I recall is a number that can be expressed as a fraction of two integers.

1/2 is rational, as is 124356/986865.

Pi (3.14....) is not.

Re: Meanings...

The name is not because 1/2 is any more sensible than √2, but rather that 1/2 is the "ratio" between 1 and 2, or 2 and 4, 3 and 6, etc.

More meaning to it

Any number that can be expressed in (p/q) form where p and q are integers and q is non-zero is a rational number.

e.g = 1/2, 0.33333...., 0.5

All numbers that aren't rational are irrational!

e.g - pi , e , sqrt2,

Note: Pi is not equal to 22/7 as some think. It is approximately equal to 22/7. It is irrational so it cannot be expressed in ratinal form.
