Looking for name of puzzle
Hi i am new and been looking for the name of a puzzle I used to do when young, but never been able to find.
The puzzle used to be in a German magazine whose name I can't remember anymore.
It uses symbols to portray itself. eg A simple one Each letter is a different number.
each letter would replace a number and by logic the answer could be found. In the magazine they would use symbols for the numbers. Each like symbol equaled the same number.
If anyone has seen or knows the name I would appreciate the reply.

Firstly welcome to Perplexus and secondly please stay around and add to our Community.
I think that we need a few more details about your problem, like an example, or something that approximates it.
The closest that I can suggest from what I currently understand is the Alphametric genre of which there are several here.
Are you thinking of something like:
JUNE + JULY = AUGUST?

Re: Looking for name of puzzle
Such a puzzle goes by the name "alphametic" or "cryptarithm". Probably if symbols were used instead of letters, the latter designation would be more appropriate than the one with "alpha" in the name. |
