Searching for an existing puzzle

I have a puzzle I'd like to submit, but I'm not sure if it's a duplicate or not. I already searched for different keywords for this puzzle, but the problem is, I've never seen this puzzle written down - my friend told it to me years ago. As such, I don't remember the exact words he used, or even if he told it in its original form. So although the puzzle as he told it to me involved numbered hats, shirts, and a party of people who played a game (and I performed searches for the keywords "hats" "shirt" "party"), you would very well tell the same puzzle by talking about a group of people that each exchanged any item, not necessarily a hat or shirt. And I don't really feel like reading through every puzzle on the site to see if this puzzle is here in some other form.

Should I just submit the puzzle as I know it? Also, I'm not really sure what category it would best fit in - probably either General or Logic. If I just submit it under one, would it get moved if I picked the wrong category?

Re: Searching for an existing puzzle

I encourage you to do just that. Submit it and place it in the category you like best. During the period you're waiting for it to move to the front of the queue (on the order of a few months), you will become more familiar with the site and the older problems.

The scholars have the ability to change the category if necessary.

In the meantime, I hope you will submit (and comment on) many problems.

Re: Searching for an existing puzzle

With problems that exist in different forms (for example if three people can mow three yards = if three fat cats can eat three fat rats) detecting an out of mod problem can be hard when looking through the problems, so I would suggest submitting it. If you see a problem on "bonus" that you see is close, just go ahead and delete it and that's fine.
