penny problem
I gave this problem out to my 7th graders and need to really know how it's solved:
Given pennies in this formation:
0 0
0 0
0 0
Make 2 moves (without touching other pennies) and make a complete circle.
If I number the pennies like this:
1 2
3 4
5 6
it might help the discussion. Can you just move 3 and 4 out? It seemed to me that it doesn't really make it a circle. |

Re: penny problem
I agree, Penny is a problem. (Just kidding, Penny) ;)
I apologize for this inconvenience, but problems are not supposed to be posted in the forums. Please feel free to submit it, and after it goes through the queue process, it might be posted on this site.
There are a few problems dealing with pennies already here:
Sliding Pennies #1
Sliding Pennies #2
(Hopefully, I did those links right.) |

Re: penny problem
The biggest argument against that is problems like this would probably get TDed because they were too easy or as in this case, no good solution. If it was me, I would count the 3-4 solution. |
