Can anyone ID this puzzle?

I don't have a picture of it, but it's a cylinder type puzzle with multiple disks in it and pegs on top that you have to move back and forth to attemp to move the disk around. The objective seems to be to move the pegs to the outer region of the cylinder. Also there are numbers on the pegs from 1 to 8 as well as the individual disks.

I really want to solve this puzzle but without knowing what type of puzzle it is, it's difficult to approach this blindly.

Re: Can anyone ID this puzzle?

If it's the one I'm thinking about, and has wedges attached to each peg, below all the disks, then it is related to gray codes, where the 1 peg is moved every other move, the 2 peg is moved every fourth move, the 3 peg every eighth move, etc. At any given point there are only two moves possible--either taking back the previous move (not the way to go) or one other possible move. Taking these moves in one direction will lead to all the pegs and their attached wedges pulled in, and the other direction to all the pegs and their attached wedges out.

Assume you are looking for a concrete object, but:

This is a shareware program.

There is a good description of the product, but I don't think it's the one to which Charlie refers.

Re: Can anyone ID this puzzle?

This appears to be what Charlie has described and is consistent with your description too.

I have the feeling that what I was looking at above, was a software version of the Ninento tumbler puzzle

Enjoy. And come back and share the site with us.

Re: Can anyone ID this puzzle?

Thank you all so much for helping me ID this and describing what type of puzzle it is.

Charlie, good thing I didn't read all your post because I want to try to figure it out by myself first. That's the fun thing about puzzle
