Can anyone help me with either the solution to or setting up a grid for this problem? Thank you. Does anyone know anything about something called simultaneous equations? Perhaps that's the direction I need to look at. Thanks again.

It's harvest time in the gardens of Orchard Close and the seven people in this puzzle have just taken different quantities of apples and pears from their trees: their very first pickings this year! Anyone might have picked the same number of apples and pears, so can you pick through the clues below to find out exactly what quantity of apples and pears each harvested?

a) Lynn picked one more pear than whoever picked either one more or one fewer apple than Jerry, who picked one more pear than Dolly. The person who picked three pears picked either seven or eight apples.

b) William picked either one more or one fewer apple than whoever picked one fewer pear than Matthew. Lynn picked either one more or one fewer apple than whoever picked two fewer than Jerry.

c) Matthew picked one fewer apple than the person who picked one fewer pear than June. Dermot picked fewer apples that whoever picked two fewer pears than William.

d) June picked more apples than Dermot, who picked either one more or one fewer pear than the person who picked one fewer apple than whoever picked five pears.
