The
five pirates have found another 500 gold coins and wonder how to split them up. This time they say that unless a
majority (more than 1/2) say yes to a plan, the one that proposed that plan will get killed and they will move on to the next plan. The order of plan making starts with 5, then 4, 3, 2, 1.
The pirates will try above all else to stay alive, even if it means accepting no coins. If they will stay alive either way, they would like the most coins possible. Also, the pirates have been on board the ship for a while and are getting tired with each other, so if faced with the decision to reject a plan or keep it, they will reject it if nothing else matters more to them.
What should Pirate 5's offer be?
Since the pirates are already dillusional, they'd probably kill anyways. Nowhere to run, since the essence of being a pirate is being on water all the time.
Ha... and if I lived on the ocean, I'd see no purpose for money... but here goes it.
Pirate #5 suggests that each pirate gets 100 coins each, leaving everyone with an equal piece. He also says that, if someone has a better idea, that person will get #5's share - PLUS the coins he would already have.... in return for not being killed. Remember - since he needs the majority to agree, he needs 2 people to agree with him (half of 5 is 2.5. Since there are no half people, 2 rounds to 3). Him plus two agreeing people equals a majority. He also says that if nobody else can come up with a better idea, he will get 50 coins from the 100 of each - leaving him with 300, and each of them with 50.
The two people who agree with his plan (however) don't lose their coins. And, if the plan DOESN'T work, the person with the new idea will still get #5's share (smart move by him), but he made them promise to keep his life. #4 will try to suggest him having 200, and 3, 2, and 1 having 100. One of them will disagree naturally, and kill #4. Now #3 has the oppertunity of having 300 and the other two 100 each, if even that much (I'm using hundreds 'cause I suck at math, and it's even... lol). This angers #2, and so on... until all of them are dead, or the remain are fighting.
This is when #5 would takes all of the coins, since he'd still be alive, and use the little emergency boat to get to shore - leaving those who agreed or disagreed to fight crazily over a prize no longer there.
What a nice little story. Good night, everyone.
