Black And Brown Gloves (Posted on 2004-10-06) Difficulty: 1 of 5
Mr. Blue has 12 brown gloves and 8 black gloves in a drawer in his closet. If he blindly pulls gloves from the drawer, what's the minimum number of gloves Mr. Blue will have to pick, to be certain he has a pair of gloves of the same color?

the answer is 3.

suppose he first picks up a brown one.. and then a black one.. in the third go, he will pick up either a brown one or a black one.. so after 3 picks, he will certainly have a pair of gloves of the same colour (either brown or black)..
