It's in the Cards (Posted on 2006-04-06) Difficulty: 2 of 5
Some playing cards are being divided into two piles according to a certain rule.

Pile A has

A A♣ 7 9♠ 3♣
while Pile B has
A 8 4♠ K♣ 10

In which pile should the Q be placed according to that rule?

Just a guess | Comment 1 of 6

Since I don't have access to a deck right now, this is just a guess (and I apologize if it's plain wrong).  It would seem that the cards in Pile B have rotational symmetry, based on both the number of "spots" and/or their shape.

Conversely, the cards in Pile A, due to the number of symbols (or in the case of the aces, their shape), do not have rotational symmetry.

Therefore, the Queen of Hearts (and all face cards, I believe) would be in pile B.
