The above 9-digit alphametic is solvable (go for it), but the 10-letter English equivalent (
six*five= thirty) is not!
Why not? Where's the contradiction?
These are two different alphametics:
In the French version the 3rd and 6th digits of the product match each other and not any digit in either of the multiplicands, while in the English version, the 3rd digit of the product equals the 2nd digit in each of the multiplicands and not the 6th (last) digit of the product.
What's to explain?
