Perhaps the different sections of words cut up by the symbols can be put together?
Perhaps words with matching symbols have some relation or hidden meaning?
If what Charlie said is right, then perhaps the numbers of the symbols relate to certain letters in that word or words in the paragraph?
I don't know. This is confusing!
