Rational Value Validation (Posted on 2016-03-20) Difficulty: 3 of 5
The 97 rational numbers 49/1, 49/2, 49/3, ..., 49/97 are written on a blackboard.
Two of the above numbers X and Y are chosen and replaced by X*Y-X-Y+1.
The procedure is repeated until a single number Z(say) remains on the board.

(In reply to solution for 4 elements only by Charlie)

To compare the results with a common denominator, each of the outputs from the 4-element simplification was multiplied by 24. After sorting the results were

 4638732
 4641696
 4642284
 4645935
 4648336
 4651104
 4651888
 4655808
 4656690
 4660708
 4660904
 4663011
 4663305
 4665412
 4665510

each to be understood as that numerator over a denominator of 24.

They are in the same neighborhood, but they are not evenly spaced.
