Isosceles Leg Length (Posted on 2016-06-09) Difficulty: 3 of 5
An isosceles triangle PQR is such that ∠PRQ = 90o. Point U is inside triangle PQR, such that UP =11, UQ=7 and UR=6.

Each of the legs PR and QR has length √(X/Y) where each of X and Y is a positive integer.

Find X and Y

I try also and arrived at your third solution.

In my opinion the intended solution was X/Y=17/sqrt2 (12,0208...) with PQ=17

In that case the coordinates of U [R=(0,0)] should be (5,469; 2,466).

But probably some calculator shift occurs as the smart numbers are very close to the analytic solution.
