Design a schedule for a 10-week season involving 8 teams playing one game a week, on Sunday. The teams are divided into two divisions, east and west.

Each team plays the teams in its division twice, home and away.
Each team plays the teams in the other division once.
Each team plays 5 home games and 5 away games.
No team ever has 3 home games in a row, or 3 away games in a row

Pretty straightforward Comment 3 of 3 |
There are various solutions. Here's one:

1 2A 3H 4A 5H 6A 2H 3A 4H 7A 8H
2 1H 4A 3H 6A 5H 1A 4H 3A 8H 7A
3 4H 1A 2A 7H 8A 4A 1H 2H 5A 6H
4 3A 2H 1H 8A 7H 3H 2A 1A 6H 5A
5 6A 7H 8H 1A 2A 6H 7A 8A 3H 4H
6 5H 8A 7A 2H 1H 5A 8H 7H 4A 3A
7 8A 5H 6H 3A 4A 8H 5A 6A 1H 2H
8 7H 6A 5A 4H 3H 7A 6H 5H 2A 1A

Teams  1-4 are on one league, 5-8 in the other. H marks home games, A away games. Row N, column M+1 gives the programme for team N in week M.
So, for instance, the fourth column, row 3 reads 2A, meaning that team 3 plays an away game against team 2 in the third week.
