I solved the sentence first, knowing only that it was a memoriam.
ELVIS PRESLEY WAS KNOWN AS "KING OF ROCK & ROLL".
I started by solving "WAS ???W? AS". It would have been a lot easier if I have realized that the letters in the sentence were not coded (i.e, represented themselves).
Then NOW*OR = NEVER is 891*95 = 84645
Of course, one of his many hits was "IT'S NOW OR NEVER".
And Elvis supposedly died on August 16, 1977, although I believe that he is really still alive.
