SETI (Posted on 2018-11-20) Difficulty: 3 of 5
A science fiction show of many years ago, showed what we would today call SETI scientists receiving numeric signals from what was determined to be an extraterrestrial civilization. They were the repeated digits 3 1 4 1 5 9 2 6 5 3.

What if the signals had been 6 3 4 9 4 1 6 9 6 7 11 6 that kept repeating? Would you recognize the set? What is it as a signal of an ET civilization?

If you need more hints than this, swipe the rest of this puzzle to see two more sequences from the same civilization, printed to match the background to hide them while trying to solve from just the above.

1 4 11 7 9 1 7 0 10 0 7 11

2 8 7 5 2 3 6 0 6 9 8 2

Some Thoughts First thoughts | Comment 1 of 5
Whatever the numbers represent, given the problem statement as well as the realities of SETI, only a unitless fundamental constant, such as pi, e, the golden ratio, the ratio of one electron state to another, etc. etc. would make sense.  It would be fallacy to think that an alien civilization would end up using the same scientific unit system as us.  So constants we take more or less for granted scientifically, such as the universal gas constant, R, or Planck's constant, which have values that depend on the units used, would not make this list.

Having said all that - I still don't have a clue to the answer.....
