How would you divide a line segment in the ratio 2 - √3 : 2 + √3 using only a compass and straightedge?

Call the segment AE.  Bisect the segment and call the midpoint C. Bisect AC and CE.  Then we have 5 points ABCDE.  Call the spacing between them 1 unit.

Draw circles at E containing D and D containing E.  Call one of their intersections X.   CX=√3.

Draw the circle at C containing X.  This intersects the segment at Y.

AY= 2 + √3and YE=2 - √3
