“Each of their ages is one more than thrice the sum of its digits.”

Assuming it is true, what are the ages?

Solution with a slight twist

13 years old or 1 year and 1 month old.

Checking integers up to a million finds only the number 13.

But the problem does not mention any particular unit of time.

So, W.G.'s sons could be 13 years old, or easily could be 13 months old. It is very common, at least in the US, to refer to the age of a child under 2 years old as a number of months.
