I have replaced your symbols with A,B,C and D. Mapped like this:

A: /\\
B: /-\\
C: \\-/
D: \\/

Thus the series will look like this.

1 A
2 B
3 A C
4 A - D
5 B A A
6 A C B B
7 A - C - C
8 B D D D D
9 D - D D D A

I am wondering about the dash on its own though. Could it also be a symbol? Or might it be an operator? If it is a symbol, where does it fit in the ABCD order?
