Can you design an equation with two unknowns and still find the value of one?

Question Anything better? | Comment 5 of 24 |
I wonder if we can do any better... So far, all equations submitted have either allowed us to identify one (or both) of the variables as zero, or else made the second one cancel out.

Can we come up with anything more "creative"? Where the equation would let us determine that one of the variables is non-zero while not cancelling out the other (as in "x + y - y = 1")
