Dressed quite formal, black and white,
Yet movement turned to nasty fight.

What's going on?

It's a chess game. There are 32 pieces on a chess board but 2 of them are queens making 30 men and 2 laides. There are two sides to a chess board: The black side and the white side. Chess essentially is a war so a nasty fight is a perfect example of the game.
