What word (which doesn't contain the letter y) only has one vowel even though it has nine letters?

Richard: ' "But then excellent is a 6-letter word (e,x,c,l,n,t)" And strengths is a 9-letter word?'

I only meant that if excellent has only one vowel,  as required by this puzzle, then it also has only 5 consonants, 6 total letters. Otherwise it has 9 letters, like strengths.
