Researchers have found that statistically, there is a direct positive relationship between students' shoe sizes and their results on spelling tests and spelling bees. (That is, students with larger shoe sizes tend to do better.)

Can you explain this correlation?

Surely there's a correlation between shoe size and age, and similarly between age and spelling ability. There is no mention of the age range of students tested so it's hard to know if this could be right - if they were aged 50-60 then the correlations don't really count, but if it was a study of students say 4-18 then I reckon I'm quids in!
