Four pairs of lords and ladies all went to a royal ball. Each lord was wearing one color (yellow, red, blue, or green) and each lady was also wearing one of these colors. No couple was wearing the same color, so it was hard to tell who was married to who.

Using the clues, can you determine which lord is with which lady?

1. The Green Lord is with the Red Lady, if and only if the Yellow Lord is with the Blue Lady.

2. The Yellow Lord is with the Red Lady if and only if the Green Lord is with the Yellow Lady

3. The Red Lord is with the Blue Lady, if and only if the Green Lord is with the Red Lady.

Let go from statement to statement

if Y Lord - Blue Lady, then Green Lord - Red Lady. Statement 3 would be wrong because  the Blue Lady is taken. Wrong

if Green Lord - Yellow Lady, then Yellow Lord - Red Lady. Look at statement 3. Red Lord wouldnt be with Blue Lady. That would leave him with Green Lady. And the Blue couples stick together. Nothing wrong with this

if Green Lord - Red Lady, then Red Lord - Blue Lady. That would make statement 1 obsolete because then Yellow Lord couldnt be with Blue Lady, and Green Lord couldnt be with Red Lady. Wrong

 

So here's my answer

Green Lord - Yellow Lady

Yellow Lord - Red Lady

Red Lord  - Green Lady

Blue Lord  - Blue Lady
