A prominent politician recently proposed, as part of our SDI, to place a defensive satellite in geosynchronous orbit directly above Washington, D.C.

What if anything is wrong with his suggestion?

It's can't orbit on the same latitudinal line except for the equator because it's going to be pulled to the core, not to the axis. Put in another way, every orbit intersects the equater or is on the equator
