At the Olympic Games (6) (Posted on 2004-09-27) Difficulty: 2 of 5
Argentine, Brazil, Colombia, Dominican Republic and Equator competed at the Olympic Games, placing first through fifth in an event. They said:

Argentine: "I was not last."
Brazil: "Canada got the bronze."
Canada: "Argentine ended behind Equator."
Dominican Republic: "Equator got silver."
Equator: "Dominican Republic didn't get gold."

The gold and silver winners lied, but the other three told the truth. How did the event end?

Some Thoughts solution i think | Comment 28 of 48 |

argentina is right otherwise he if he lied he would be in 1st or 2nd position a his comment would be a lie i.e he is last. but how can he be in top two and last at same time.

dominican republic and equador cann't be true at same time. dominican republic lied as then equador will get silver if he is true and he himself will get the gold again proving his comment cannot be true. as he is a lier and not in gold place he is 2nd.

argentina cannot be first then he would have lied.so argentina is in 3rd or 4th position.

so brasil or canada is first.

canada cannot be gold medalist bcoz in that case brasil would be liar although he will not be in 1st or 2nd position.

so brasil is first.

canada didnot came third. as he was true equador came third and argentina fourth . canada fifth.

brasil(1st) domanican republic (2nd) equador (3rd) argentina(4th) canada (5th)
