I didn't do it. (Posted on 2004-11-04) Difficulty: 1 of 5
A terrible crime has been committed and the police round up the usual suspects. During the interrogation of the four men the following accusations and statements are made:

Anderson said "Brimmers did it."
Brimmers said "Dodge did it."
Carter said "I didn't do it."
Dodge said "Brimmers lied when he said I did it."

If only one of the four men was untruthful, which man committed the crime?

If only one person is a liar, it has to be Anderson or Brimmers. They can't both be telling the truth.

Likewise, Brimmers and Dodge can't both be telling the truth.

So I say Brimmers is lying, and following the true statements I get Brimmers did it from Anderson.  Complete the chain, no conflicts with Carter or Dodge telling the truth.

I like this problem.  It didn't take me days to figure it out. :-)
