On Tour (Posted on 2004-11-03) Difficulty: 3 of 5
Caesar Cypher & The Substitutions have been on tour, and as tradition dictates, the souvenir tour T-shirt bears a list of the cities visited on the back. But of course, since we're talking about one of Europe's leading cryptographic jazz combos, the list is in code:

080476
410488
631428083607
735616461
440401478
235476731
540631
616431
461546410

The list contains no information apart from the city names. Can you work out their itinerary?

Telephone code? | Comment 15 of 29 |
There are nine numbers on the telephone with asociated letters (newer phones put Q and Z on the 0).

Perhaps the digits represent one of the three letters on the numbers. Obviously, we can't use the straight phone code since the number 9 has letters and 9 never shows up, and 1 has no letters, but the number 1 appears in the puzzle.

If we rearrange the letters like this:

0 - ABC
1 - DEF
2 - GHI
.
.
.
8 - QZ

410488 becomes
MDAMTT
NEBNUU
OFCOVV

and

540631 becomes
PMATJD
RNBUKE
SOCVLP

I can't see any city names in either of those two.

Maybe a different association of letters with numbers?
