On what kind of surface would a square wheel function the same as a round wheel?

How about a completely vertical surface.  Or one that is slanting backwards.  Either "car"  will pretty much come crashing to the earth at oh say 9.8 m/sec(squared).  Or how about the clown who strapped a JATO to his car (urban legend?).  He would pretty much smash into the side of the mountain no matter what shaped wheels he put on his car.
