the 'I cannot tell 5 lies' sequence (Posted on 2004-11-17) Difficulty: 2 of 5

What is the next number in this sequence?

1) 11247
2) 7865
3) 97630
4) 41562

Hint: there are only five numbers in this sequence and the fifth number is five digits long

For a D2 this seems a bit difficult, I must be thinking up the wrong tree...

Assuming that the second number could be written as 07865, then the columns add up to 14, 16, 21, 19, and 14.  If the fifth number in the sequence is 75037, then each coumn adds up to 21.

There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason using Zip Codes:
Brooklyn, Port Murray, Lakeview, Shelbiana,...

Positions in Pi didn't reveal much either:
25704, 24960 (or 145586 using a leading 0), 117375, 191300, ...
