the 'I cannot tell 5 lies' sequence (Posted on 2004-11-17) Difficulty: 2 of 5

What is the next number in this sequence?

1) 11247
2) 7865
3) 97630
4) 41562

Hint: there are only five numbers in this sequence and the fifth number is five digits long

I did differences.  That didn't help.

I did a = 1, b = 2, ....  That didn't help.

I still don't know what "the 'I cannot tell 5 lies' sequence" means.

I tried making a magic square, to no avail.

The sums of the digits of the numbers are: 1)15, 2)26, 3)25, 4)18, 5)?.  Nope.

"there are only five numbers in this sequence" got me to thinking, "What are there five of, and how would you put them in number form?"  And I drew a blank.  Hope one of these random ideas helped someone else, because they didn't help me any.
