Word Meld and Weld (Posted on 2004-12-06) Difficulty: 2 of 5

Word meld and weld is slightly different from previous puzzles of this nature.
In this puzzle you have to get from the word SISTER to the word BROTHER.
The rules are simple, either change a letter, add a letter or remove a letter.
The only proviso is that each word created must be a genuine English word.

Here are some more to try

BLACK
:
:
WHITE

NIGHT
:
:
DAY

HUNGRY
:
:
THIRSTY

Can you find any other such word meld/welds that go from one word to its opposite?

Oh snap. Cat and house? Are you implying that Eric and myself can't handle big words?

You used the name of a school for Chirst's sake! And something about a scarf that some woman made in Bangledesh, I don't even remember it was so weird and not even a word.

Also, use of proper nouns doesn't make sense. Anything can be a word if proper nouns are allowed. RandyOrton is my name, is that a word?

One suspect word might be ok, and since it is a hard problem I don't expect the list of words to be simple words. But having the majority of the words you use needing an explanation, I again agree with Eric that you might as well just make us words:

THIRSTY
HIRSTY (what I call my cat)
HURSTY (alternate spelling of name I call my cat)
HUSTY (a magazine I subscribe to)
HUNTY (as in "I feel rather hunty today, I think I'll shoot a deer")
HUNGY (my nickname in high school, wink wink)

HUNGRY!
