If this sum is correct, what digits do A and M represent? MA + A = AM

I'm not sure I'm following this (why A+A=10+M or A=M+1?) but the simple way seems to be (10M+A)+A=(10A+M) so 9M=8A, and the only possible answer is M=8, A=9.

A second way, even simpler: if you take any number, move around its digits, and subtract it from the original, the difference must be multiple of 9, so A=9, which only allows M=8.
