If this sum is correct, what digits do A and M represent? MA + A = AM

MA + A = AM
Or, 10M + 2A = 10A + M
Or, 9M = 8A
Or, M/8 = A/9 (=p, say)
Or, (M, A) = (8p, 9p). if p>=2, then each of M and A would exceed 10 and thus is a contradiction>

Accordingly, p= 1 ;and, consequently:
(M, A) = (8, 9) and the required addition when completed is:

89 + 9 = 98
