rule of thumb....easy to calculate

A small practical i.e. (approximated) contribution (metric):

D=3.6*SQRT(H)

Distance in km, Height in m

e.g. from a tower of 100m you see about 36 km

Height of yourv eyes"

Want to add 1.7 m? Will not change too much.
