One Word, Seven Times (Posted on 2005-01-27) Difficulty: 5 of 5
"Dog dog dog dog dog dog dog."

While dog-lovers rejoice at the above statement, grammarians hang their heads in shame, as the statement is not a grammatically correct sentence.

Replace "dog" with a word that will satisfy the grammarians. You may not add any additional words or punctuation.

Notwithstanding that no one ever satisfies grammarians... :) | Comment 4 of 14 |

Well, I agree that it has to be a verb - that's a given since every sentence requires one.  And a verb that can double as a noun (such as "races") and/or a proper noun (such as "Races") would be a bonus.

Also possible might be an imperative, simply repeated seven times.  Like "Go go go go go go go go."  Or an expletive such as a robot droning, "Error error error error error error error."

Or it could be a spoken repetition that makes sense in context, but does not make sense when viewed out of context.  Such as, "What's his phone number?"  "Five five five five five five five."  "Come on, what is it really?"  Or, "Ok Anderson, this is Mission Control.  We'll walk you through this.  What colors are the indicators of the seven lights on the console right in front of you?"  "Green green green green green green green."  "All green?"  "Roger that."

My last guess is a laugh: "Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha."

Beyond that, I'm at a loss to come up with "the" correct answer that David Shin may have had in mind.
