Call me a "simple Simon", but I think this one hurts. Find the next 4 digit number in the sequence, and explain.

Perhaps each four-letter group represents a letter.  If so, 2084 could likely be 'e', as it is used the most, and occurs twice in a row near the end of the second line.  Also, 2329 might be the space.

Not sure, will keep trying.
